Facial implants are an effective way to enhance the facial skeleton, supplement deficient fat and compensate for the progressive tissue atrophy of aging.
The most common implants for the face are those for the chin, the cheek, the tear trough deformity (the deep grooves beneath the eyes), the upper jaw deficiencies around the base of the nose (maxillary), the maxillary spine (which supplements the structural deficiency where nose meets upper lip), the sublabial sulcus (the deep groove beneath the lower lip), the angles of the jaws, the jaw rim depression just in front of the jowls, and many other areas requiring custom designed implants.
Length of Procedure: 15 minutes to 2 hours.
What to Expect : Pain is not a feature of implant surgery and rarely is it associated with these operations. There will be some swelling and occasionally bruising. Scars are commonly concealed within the mouth, or elsewhere in a hard-to-find location. Chin, cheek, nose, and maxillary implants and their associated swelling sometimes offer an early feeling of resistance to smiling and intricate lip-motions. This clears in a matter of weeks but the mouth effect is rarely detectable to another person after the 1st week.
Recovery: There will be decreasing swelling after surgery – bruising in our patients is unusual. Return to work in 1 to 7 days.
