Our approach to Breast Augmentation differs in philosophy from that of most surgeons. As we emphasize a very large pocket, either beneath the breast or behind the muscle, occupied by a reduced-volume-fill smooth shell implant (of desired size), containing either saline or gel, which is mobilized daily to make sure the pocket does not diminish in size. The difficult art for most to master is that of preventing the pockets from closing up. Since even a teaspoon of blood in the breast pocket is a powerful stimulus to aggressive capsule formation (dense scar encircling the implant), we place suction drains to keep the operated area “dry” for the first three to four days after surgery. This helps the pockets stay large. Those large pockets combined with our reduced volume, extra soft implants give the breasts a full but beautiful and natural tear drop contour when the woman is vertical, and a natural, somewhat flattened contour when supine (lying on her back). The softness makes lying prone (face down) – on bed or beach – also comfortable.
