Breast Suction Draining Device Instruction
A suction draining device has been used to assure that the operated area remains as free of blood as possible. Hopefully this will assist in providing the best possible result.
-
It is important for the drainage container to be compressed at all times except for the few moments when you empty it. This assures that suction is properly delivered. If the tube becomes detached, reinsert them securely to restore vacuum.
-
At least once a day remove the rubber plug, compress the container, and reinsert the plug.
-
24 hours before your scheduled follow-up visit, remove the plug, empty the container, and measure the contents. You can do this with a measuring cup or you can estimate by the markings on the container. (The container is calibrated for measurements with the plug removed.) A nurse will empty the container and measure the contents again on your first postoperative visit.
-
If the container will not remain compressed, it indicates that there is a leak. In this case, call the office.
-
Do not rinse inside the drain. If drain becomes detached, reattach it quickly and reclaim the vacuum suction. If this does not work, call our office, Dr. Flowers or the person covering for him. You have his phone numbers for the office and after hours.
